Spring Picnic | Harry P. Leu Gardens

Hey Guys,

As the days get warmer, I dream about spending more time outdoors. There are tons of activities to be done outside and I am here for all of it. I decided I needed a picnic to cure my outdoor itch; somewhere cool and preferably by a lake. So I called my fellow blogger Kelly, who is almost always up for anything fun and girly, and said “Lets have a picnic” and she said “Sure! I have a basket” and the rest was history.......or, so we thought.

Pro Tip: If you are planning on having a picnic in a location that’s not a public park, please call ahead and check that food is allowed on the grounds. :)

I am sure you can probably tell where this is going. We had settled on my favorite garden location in Orlando (Harry P. Leu Gardens) to be the ideal spot for our picnic. We arrived all dolled up and ready to set up this picnic, and then, it dawned on me that I didn’t actually call ahead to ask if I could have a picnic. I just assumed I could (big mistake). I quickly ran inside, like my life depended on it, and asked if we could have a picnic. Sure enough, the lady at the front desk said: “NO! We do not allow you to eat on the lawns.” She then informed me that I could, however, eat on the porch. With all the joy slipping from my, soon to be lifeless face, my husband jumped in to save the day. “Can we setup and take pictures only; no eating” he asked. “Yes” was her answer and suddenly all was right with the world again. I could take my pictures and then eat my food on the porch. Not exactly what I had in mind but, since I dropped the proverbial ball, I wasn’t going to complain (too much).

On a more positive note, this was an easy outing to throw together without much thought. I grabbed my basket from my entryway to store the pitcher and champagne glasses. I swung by the supermarket and grabbed a bottle of champagne, a cheese platter and some fruits. That was all done the morning of. Kelly provided all of the décor elements, which she already had at home; easy-peasy. :)
