Hey guys,
I am back again with a new topic that I hope will bring forth some insight into the world of hair extensions. I’m pretty new to the world of weaves, but along my short journey I have come across bits and pieces of information that I wish to share with you, so here goes. The aim of this post is to answer two frequently asked questions. That is, why Remi/Remy above all other types of human hair? And of course, the most common, why does it cost so much more? In my attempt to answer these questions, I’ll begin by highlighting what I perceive to be differences in Remi, when compared to other brands. Remi best describes hair that is positioned in the same direction as it is cut from the head, meaning all the cuticles of the hair are aligned to face the same direction. There are two types of Remi, virgin and non-virgin. The term “virgin” in relation to extensions, makes reference to the fact that it has not been processed or coloured, whilst “non-virgin” make mention of those that have been coloured or processed. Alternate forms of human hair on the other hand, can be referred to as fallen hair. In other words, the roots and tips of the hair are mixed up, leaving the hair prone to tangling. So why does it cost so much more? Let’s just say you get what you pay for – better quality, greater lifespan, and less headaches.
Studies have indicated that Virgin Indian is, internationally, the primary choice of quality hair and wig manufacturers. Personally, I have not ventured in to the realm of Virgin Indian Remi, but maybe one day I will, who knows? I do however wear Non-Virgin Remi hair for which I paid approximately USD$140 for two packs. Is it worth it? Well let’s do the math. I purchased the hair that I am currently wearing in mid May of this year, I have it shampooed and conditioned every two weeks. I also remove and re-sew the hair every four to six weeks. So I’ve had this hair for a little over three months and it still looks great but don’t take my word for it, judge for yourselves, by viewing the images displayed at the end of this post, and feel free to thank me later when you’ve made your first purchase.
Prior to my venture into the world of Remi, I used to wear regular human hair. This amounted to approximately USD$60 for two packs of hair. However, after about two weeks it would start tangling and I would have to remove it completely. I absolutely HATED the look and feel after washing it for reuse (Please note that this is my opinion, and I mean no offence to anybody viewing this post). Having been faced with this problem, I’d end up spending USD$120 a month. That is, USD$360 for three months because after two weeks I’d just purchase two fresh packs instead of reusing the ones I had removed. Do you see where I’m headed with this? Whenever I wash my Remi hair it looks and feels as though I’ve just taken it out of the packaging, which is something I love.
I’ve tried different brands of Remi before and I must say I am pleased with the product overall. The one I’m currently wearing is Sensational Goddess, a first for me. It gives off the same general effect, and produces the same results. However, there is a downside to this hair which poses a big problem for me. It sheds like crazy!!! There’s hair all over the place but I guess with all things in life you have to give and take. In closing, Remi human hair is of a higher quality when compared to standard quality brands. It helps me to achieve an all natural look through its smoother, shinier, and healthier appearance than that given off by regular human hair, and when washed, it will not mat and tangle. This confirmed through the countless people asking “Is that your real hair?” Lol!
